Electronic Health Records (ePA) Successfully Implemented at Eight Private Health Insurance Companies

As a strategic integration partner, RISE assumed overall responsibility for planning, management, and implementation, and successfully integrated the ePA into the private health insurers' system landscapes.

„With the successful rollout of the ePA, we are expanding the foundation for service providers to utilize the private health insurance-specific integration.“

Dr. Christian Schanes, member of the RISE management board

As part of the digitization project, RISE, in collaboration with eight participating private health insurers (PKVs), rolled out the electronic patient record (ePA) and integrated it into the insurers’ system landscapes. As a result, RISE, together with BITMARCK, currently provides the ePA to a total of 13 private health insurers. As early as 2025, as part of a joint project, RISE had already implemented the technical connection to the telematics infrastructure as well as central applications such as GesundheitsID, online check-in, and e-prescriptions for the eight participating private health insurers. With the successful introduction of the ePA, the second phase of the project has now been completed on schedule, further expanding digital care for privately insured individuals.

This challenging project was completed on schedule in just eight months. RISE provided the eight participating private health insurers with the necessary ePA components and coordinated implementation across all project partners. Thanks to the proven model of joint project management, synergies were leveraged and the rollout was carried out efficiently, in a standardized manner, and in a scalable way.

“The simultaneous rollout of the ePA at eight private health insurers within the planned timeframe was a challenging undertaking. The fact that all integrations were successfully implemented is the result of close, collaborative work among all parties involved,” explains Dr. Christian Schanes, a member of RISE’s executive board. “With the successful rollout of the ePA, we are expanding the foundation for service providers to utilize the private health insurance-specific integration.”

The ePA enables insured individuals to centrally store medical documents - such as test results, doctors’ notes, or medication plans - and securely share them with treating providers as needed. This simplifies treatment processes, prevents duplicate tests, and improves collaboration between doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. As a result, insured individuals gain modern, secure, and user-friendly access to their health data. At the same time, the quality of care, transparency, and administrative processes can be further improved and made more efficient.
