Hardware & IoT

Large systems, security infrastructures and specialised applications often require the use of specific hardware, e.g. to provide applications with hardware-based security anchors such as Secure Elements or to implement sophisticated measurement and control applications. RISE staff have many years of experience in hardware engineering, firmware and embedded software development, as well as related issues such as functional testing, certification, volume production and roll-out. RISE hardware has been in successful daily use in many countries for many years.

End-to-end engineering

At RISE, we live and breathe end-to-end engineering across all IT disciplines. Hardware, firmware and embedded security down to the hardware are essential components of security solutions as well as specialised applications in the IoT sector. By seamlessly integrating with other core IT disciplines such as backend, mobile applications, device management and operational architectures, RISE can implement truly end-to-end integrated solutions.

RISE has extensive experience in the development of microcontroller based systems as well as complex systems of different architectures (e.g. Intel, ARM, dedicated crypto processors) and accompanies the solutions through the entire hardware development stages of conception, design, schematics and layout as well as the design of the appropriate enclosures for the hardware. RISE has an extensive partner network for the production of hardware in small and large quantities, including custom-made products, and designs and accompanies the production steps of the hardware up to automated tests (e.g. end-of-line tests) and the personalisation of the manufactured devices.

RISE hardware platform and specialised hardware

RISE has implemented and rolled out numerous hardware components for customers in the IoT, healthcare, payment and access control sectors. Based on this experience, customer systems can now be implemented using the RISE hardware platform, which provides proven modular sub-solutions with flexible, open interfaces for fast and efficient implementation of customised hardware solutions.

It is also possible to implement hardware that has to be designed and developed from scratch to meet specific requirements. In the healthcare sector, for example, hardware systems have been implemented that incorporate security mechanisms such as tamper detection with automatic key deletion, secure elements, TPM, secure CPU and MCU with secure key storage and other features into the hardware design to ensure the highest level of security. In addition to developing hardware and embedded software, RISE also provides support in obtaining various industry standard certifications for the hardware, such as Common Criteria, PCI, EMV-Co

RISE IoT portfolio

The RISE IoT portfolio includes solutions for secure data transfer from hardware devices to back-end systems, device configuration and lifecycle management, as well as proven operating architectures for large-scale IoT systems.

RISE has experience of nationwide rollouts of large numbers of IoT devices, which are centrally managed, securely updated and monitored during operation via RISE Device Management. Features such as automated alerting, monitoring and application dashboards or reports can be quickly implemented and customised based on RISE IoT standard components.

Selected topics

Housing and design

In addition to the technical design of hardware, RISE also offers services in the design of enclosures for various customer-specific electronics.

RISE can make it colourful, robust, usable, stylish and a whole lot more. In the hardware sector, we place great emphasis on creating and developing enclosures and designs that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. Our expertise includes the design of robust, durable enclosures that reliably protect sensitive electronics while ensuring optimum device performance. The design and implementation is done in close cooperation with the client.

RISE Device Management

An important component of IoT systems is the management and continuous monitoring of the devices used. The RISE Device Management solution provides all the necessary functionality to manage different hardware devices. The devices can be integrated via various standard protocols, allowing the integration of third-party devices as part of a heterogeneous device landscape.

The central platform provides asset management, configuration management and device (application) management capabilities, complemented by customisable monitoring views and customised visualisations and dashboards. Routine tasks such as monitoring, alerting and reporting can be automated in simple steps. Comprehensive and granular settings for access rights, roles and visibility allow different user groups, such as technicians, support staff or application managers, to use the central platform together, but with clear separation.
