Approval of virtual institutional ID cards for hospitals: RISE launches friendly user tests in the PU with DKTIG & RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG

The HSM-B will replace the SMC-B institutional certificate in the future, enabling the use of virtual institutional certificates at RISE HSK in-house.

„The HSM-B replaces a large number of previously used SMC-B cards, which not only gives us greater scalability, but also significantly reduces operational effort and improves performance.“

Julian Schäfer, RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG

Gematik has granted RISE approval for the friendly user test of the Type B hardware security module (HSM-B) at RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG. With the HSM-B, RISE is providing a new solution that replaces the SMC-B institutional ID card and physical card terminal previously required. RISE thus enables the use of a virtual institutional ID card that can be operated redundantly, efficiently, centrally, and fail-safely using the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor. Complex card logistics, processing times, replacement processes, and considerable administrative effort will be a thing of the past.

The friendly user test of the RISE HSM-B is starting with the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor used at RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG. RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG is replacing many SMC-Bs previously operated in the data center and is testing their use in the production environment in large institutions as well as the upstream output processes in the DKTIG application portals. Experience gained from the friendly user test is being directly incorporated into further development in order to provide a practical and user-oriented solution that is also suitable for large institutions.

“We are delighted that we were also able to play a pioneering role in the development of the HSM-B. The HSM-B, in combination with the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor and the RISE TI-Gateway, will make everyday life much easier, especially for hospitals and, subsequently, for service providers,” says Dr. Christian Schanes, member of the RISE management board. “With the HSM-B, healthcare facilities benefit from a virtual solution that offers greater scalability, significantly less operational effort, and a more stable, low-maintenance TI architecture. This will be an enormous advantage, especially for larger facilities, but also for mobile scenarios.”

“The HSM-B replaces a large number of previously used SMC-B cards, which not only gives us greater scalability, but also significantly reduces operational effort and improves performance,” says Julian Schäfer, RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG.

About RISE (Research Industrial Systems Engineering):

As a manufacturer and driver of digital technologies from Europe for Europe and the entire digital world, the IT company RISE, which was founded more than 20 years ago as an R&D company from the Vienna University of Technology, can point to leading references, long-standing customers, key technologies, solid products and in-depth expertise in sectors such as healthcare, mobility, finance, retail, administration, manufacturing, industry and IT security. RISE enables partners to be solid innovators and digital transformers, while at the same time reliably integrating good old procedural and existing knowledge from established companies and institutions.

Since 2006, RISE has played a leading role in setting up the telematics infrastructure (TI) in the German healthcare system and has brought numerous components and services to approval. RISE is currently responsible for the ongoing expansion of the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor and TI-Gateway, the development of over 22 million highly secure patient files (ePA) for more than 80 statutory and private insurance companies, a service for secure e-mail communication between doctors (KIM), the TI's central identity provider (IDP) for access control to specialist services such as the electronic prescription (e-prescription), several federated IDPs and numerous other special components in the TI. RISE supplies doctors' surgeries, pharmacies and many hospitals with infrastructure software and provides end-to-end operation, maintenance and further development. In addition to ePA deliveries to statutory health insurers, RISE equips a growing number of private health insurance customers with ePA technology and a future-proof health ID.

As a global software construction company as well as a system manufacturer and integrator, RISE has key experience, technologies and components for nationwide and Europe-wide solutions in many digitalization sectors such as gov-tech, insurance, payment and banking, logistics, transport, mobility, public administration, industrial IoT, IT security technology, cell phone security or digital ID.

RISE supplies business partners as a technology manufacturer or integrator and generally leaves broad-based communication to its customers and partners. Please send detailed information on technical, project, technology and research topics by e-mail to:
